Lab Services

Our in-house laboratory capabilities at our animal hospital in Westfield allows us to perform a number of important lab tests quickly and efficiently. We are equipped to perform complete blood counts, blood chemistries, pre-anesthetic blood work, wellness checks, and more at our animal hospital.

What is a Complete Blood Count?

A complete blood count measures the number of cells of different types circulating in the bloodstream.

  • The red blood cells are a good indication of how well oxygenated the pet is prior to surgery and can indicate whether they are anemic or in good blood health
  • The white blood cells are associated with infections and other inflammatory conditions, indicating whether the pet is healthy or ill
  • Platelets tell us if there is an underlying bleeding condition.

What is a Blood Chemistry?

A blood chemistry performed in-house is often used to screen for the following:

  • Diabetes
  • Intestinal diseases of certain kinds
  • Kidney conditions
  • Liver abnormalities
  • Monitoring of chronic health conditions
  • Pancreatic disease

Information About Wellness Bloodwork

When your pet receives wellness care, we offer the option of sending bloodwork to an off-site lab. Results are often received in 24 hours and these tests can be more affordable. If abnormalities are discovered, we will discuss diagnostics and treatment with you.
